Guide to Troubleshooting Account Problems

The following steps should be taken if you have determined that your account is not working. These are general tips and cannot apply to everything. If these steps do not help you to resolve your login issue, as always contact the MCLA Computer Helpdesk.

Check your User ID

Your User ID should start with a lower case 'a' with 8 digits. Becareful not to get this confused with your e-mail name! The User ID that is assigned to you can never be changed.

  • To verify you are using the correct User ID, you can check it here.

Check your Password

Often times users will forget their password or need to check their password to make sure they are trying the correct one. We cannot provide you with the password.

  • If you have forgotten your password, click here to reset it. You will need the correct answers to your challenge questions to be allowed to reset your password. In the event that you have forgotten the answers to your challenege questions, the account must be reset by the MCLA Computer Helpdesk.
  • If you think you are using the correct password you can verify this by using the Password Reset tool. Once it checks your password and asks you for a new one, you can change it to the same one. If it fails, you know that you are using either the wrong User ID or Password.

Check your Connection

Sometimes common issues can be solved by simple solutions that are obvious and are overlooked because of their simplicity. The reason why you may not be able to login could be related to your connection.

  • Verify this by just opening a web browser and trying a website. If that website does not come up, your problem is connection specific. Always check your connection when your having issues logging in.
  • If your issue has suddenly occurred after installing or changing firewall software such as Norton Internet Security. The service that your trying to log into maybe getting blocked by that software. If this is true, the software must be configured to allow that service through.
