How do I connect to the HOTSPOT wireless network?

The list below contains basic tips for getting your laptop or PDA connected to our wireless network. Because wireless devices and their software vary wildly, these tips are intended to be universal and may not address your specific issues.

Your wireless device:

  • must be capable of using the 802.11 b/g standards.
  • must obtain an IP address and DNS server addresses automatically.
  • must not require encryption.

If you have trouble configuring your device and cannot find answers here, please visit the Helpdesk on the first floor of Mark Hopkins. The staff will be able to answer questions about your specific hardware and test it at the Helpdesk.

Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape, etc...) and try to open a web page. If nothing happens click refresh to reload the page. You will be prompted with a security warning like the one below. Click "Yes" to accept the secure certificate and enter the secure website.

At the "User Name" and "Password" prompts enter your MCLA username and password (the same one you would use for email).

After a successful login you should be able to visit any website. First, choose the "HOTSPOT" network and click Connect.
