Check the following:

Check that you are using the correct MCLANET ID (a100xxxx) and password. You can verify this by using any of the other services that require a MCLANET ID and password such as student tools, the computer labs or any of the account management tools located at http://helpdesk.mcla.edu/tools.htm. If you need to obtain an account go to http://helpdesk.mcla.edu/register. Make sure you do not have any blank spaces (white space) in your user id or password. Did you forget the lower case ‘a’ in the MCLANET ID?

Check the following:

Verify that you are connected and have internet access. Can you open a web browser and visit a website?

Check to see if anything is restricting you from accessing FirstClass such as very restrictive firewall software such as “Norton Internet Security”. The software that is restricting you from accessing FirstClass will have to be either disabled or configured to work with FirstClass.

Verify that in the settings area that you have “fc.mcla.edu” in the server field.

Check the following:

You may not have activated your account completely. Follow the account activation process again. The account activation process can be located at http://helpdesk.mcla.edu/register . Make sure you complete the final step which is FirstClass activation where you will be asked to click on the ‘Login to FirstClass’ button. You will then be prompted to enter your MCLANET ID and password. It will then bring you to a section where you must agree to the electronics communications policy. After you have agreed to each point in the electronics communications policy you will then be notified that your account has been fully activated. Once that occurs you should try to login to FirstClass again.
