Upgrading to the latest verison of Novell client

Like any software, it’s always best to use the latest and greatest version available. The latest version of Novell Client allows for better stability and functionality with the newest applications offered by MCLA.

These steps are to upgrade to Novell Client for Windows 4.91 SP2 (Windows XP). Before you start the update process - be sure to check the following.

  • That you have properly logged into and have connected to the Novell network (Do not use the workstation only button).
  • That your currently running Windows XP (If other OS, please call the helpdesk for different instructions)
  • That you have saved any documents you have been working on and have closed out of all applications.

1. In the lower left hand corner - click on the 'Start' menu. Once on the start menu - click on ‘Run’

2. After you click on ‘Run’ from the Start menu an “Open:” textbox will appear. In the textbox type in “ \\birch\VOL1\APPS\nc491sp2\acu.exe “ then click ‘Ok’.

3. After a few moments the ‘Novell Automatic Client Upgrade’ dialog box will appear. This lists what version you currently have and what version it will upgrade you to. After you have reviewed the information – click ‘Yes’.

4. Another dialog box will appear - click ‘Install/Upgrade’

5. After you have clicked ‘Install/Upgrade’ the installation process will begin and the following status box will appear.

It’s important that you do not close any boxes that appear or stop the installation at any point by closing or interrupting the installation application. Disturbing the installation process can corrupt your installation of Novell client - which will impact your ability to properly log into the network.

6. After the installation completes a notification will appear – you will have to reboot your computer at this stage to allow for changes to take effect. Click ‘Reboot’ and your computer will restart.
