FirstClass Calander

The FirstClass Calendar allows users to manage their personal schedules. It is the tool to use to keep track of appointments, class schedules, tasks, or personal events. To access your personal calendar, from the File menu choose Open. Then select Calendar. Alternatively, you can also access your Calender by double clicking on the calendar icon located on your FirstClass desktop.

Click the Event tab the following fields will appear that should be filled in.

  • Fill in the ‘description’ field with the name of your event.
  • In the ‘Starts’ field choose the time and date that the event starts. Make sure you fill in AM or PM correctly.
  • To set the end time you can either choose the day and time manually or enter the duration. The field will be calculated for you if you select the end time by duration. If you have an event that does not have a time you can check off ‘All day event’.
  • You can incorporate a further description/agenda in the text box located at the bottom of the event entry form.
  1. Select the ‘My Reminders’ section to setup a notification to go off for the event. In order to see these reminders appear at the time they are set to go off, you must be logged in to FirstClass at that time. If you are not logged in, an e-mail notification will be sent. This icon Image:fc_cal3.jpg indicates those events with reminders. When the reminder notification does pop up, you have the option to set the same reminder to pop up again by hitting snooze.
  2. To invite other participants to the event, click the ‘Participants’ tab. The event time you choose will show in the time bar for that day. The bar has colors that indicate your availability. You can then add participants, while doing so you can also see their availability bar. The event time bar above will change to include everyone’s availability.
  • Note: It is best to check with the participants prior to inviting them to your event using this calendar feature. Not all users of FirstClass use their calendar. If you invite someone who is outside of the FirstClass system (outside of the MCLA Community), they will receive a .vcf file which is readable by most groupware applications.
  1. Click the advanced tab if you would like to set the event up to repeat. This becomes useful for work schedules and class schedules. Choose the interval time and set the ‘Repeat untill’ date. This icon Image:Fc_cal3.jpg specifies events that repeat.

Viewing and editing the Calander

Double click an event to open it so that you may read its details. You will also have the option to edit it. However, this does not edit or change the event for any participates of that event. You can also move an event to another day by dragging it. A red flag will appear for those events you have not yet read. You can view the calendar in various ways including by month, by week, or by day. To change the view use the view buttons in the toolbar that appears while in your calendar.
