Instructions For Windows

  • Type "http://printing.mcla.edu" in the address bar.
  • Choose a printer from the list of available printers.
  • Click the “Link for Windows” link next to the printer you choose.
  • You might be warned that the download contains an executable, click "Run" from the dialog box.
  • You will be prompted again warning you that the program's publisher cannot be verified. Just click "Run" again.
  • The printer installation tool will launch. It should list the name of the printer and have a Cancel and Ok button. Click "Ok".
  • You will be prompted to set a username and password for the printer. Fill out the form in the manner shown here, using your MCLANET username and password.

NOTE: Occasionally this window appears behind other windows. If after a few seconds it doesn't appear, minimize or close your other windows to locate it.

  • Click “Ok”.
  • In a few seconds, the printer will be installed. If you would like to check to see that it is available, click the "Start" menu, and then click "Printers and Faxes".

NOTE: The installation should not set the printer as the default printer on your computer. You will have to choose the appropriate printer each time you print. Typically, this can be done by choosing the printer from a list as in this example from the Internet Explorer print dialog.

Instructions For Mac OSX

Manual installation of an IPP printer in Mac OS X is a long process. Computer Support Services has developed a tool to quickly install this type of printer. If you encounter problems with the instructions or the tool used in this documentation, please bring your computer to the Computer Helpdesk. There the printer can be installed manually, and it will help us further develop the printer install tools.

  • Open a web browser.
  • Type “http://printing.mcla.edu” in the address bar.
  • Choose a printer from the list of available printers.
  • Click the “Link for Mac OS X” link next to the printer you choose.
  • Your browser may prompt you before opening or downloading the file because it contains an application.
  • Click “Continue”.
  • The download should open automatically, leaving you at this Finder screen.
  • Double-click the icon inside the folder, in this case “Murdock Computer Lab 108”. This will begin the installation process.
  • Click “Ok”.
  • Enter your MCLANET username.
  • Enter your MCLANET password.
  • After a few seconds, the Printer Setup Utility should open and you can see that the printer has been installed.

NOTE: The installation should not set the printer as the default printer on your computer. You will have to choose the appropriate printer each time you print. Typically, this can be done by choosing the printer from a list as in this example from the Safari print dialog.
