To improve the protection of sensitive data across Office 365, the Office of Information Technology has implemented Data Loss Prevention (DLP) features within Office 365. With this feature, users will be notified via ‘policy tips’ when the service detects that sensitive information is within an e-mail or file they are interacting with in Office 365. The DLP service is enabled for various areas within Office 365 including E-mail, OneDrive and SharePoint. This service supports compliance requirements in accordance with privacy laws such as HIPPA, FERPA, and PCI security standards.

Policy Tips

Policy tips such as the one featured below may appear in any of the Office 365 applications or services when sensitive data is detected. These tips allow users to bring documents into compliance with privacy policy.
